      Fun Facts About Utility Poles

Please reach us at info@tuff-stik.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The weight of utility poles can vary depending on the material, length, and type of pole. Here are some general estimates:

      1. Wooden Utility Poles: Typically made of wood such as pine or cedar. A      standard wooden utility pole can weigh between 400 to 2,000 pounds     (180 to 900 kilograms), depending on its length and diameter.
      2. Steel Utility Poles: These are often used in areas where strength and      durability are needed. A steel utility pole can weigh between 500 to      4,000 pounds (225 to 1,800 kilograms).
      3. Concrete Utility Poles: Often used in places with high wind or for heavier      loads. A concrete pole can weigh between 1,500 to 5,000 pounds (680      to 2,270 kilograms).
      4. Composite Utility Poles: These poles are made of materials like fiberglass or      resin and are generally lighter, weighing between 500 to 1,200 pounds     (225 to 545 kilograms).

The weight can vary significantly based on the specific use, location, and requirements of the pole.

The average length of a wooden utility pole typically ranges between 30 to 40 feet. However, the length can vary depending on the specific application and location. For example:

      • Residential Areas: Poles are usually around 35 to 40 feet long.
      • Rural or Highway Areas: Poles might be longer, ranging from 40 to 60 feet.
      • Special Applications: In some cases, poles may be even longer, up to 120      feet for specific needs like crossing rivers or supporting heavy transmission lines.

The most common length used in general utility applications is around 35 to 40 feet.

On average, a wooden utility pole weighs between 30 to 40 pounds/per foot. This estimate can vary slightly depending on the type of wood and moisture content, but it's a good general range for most standard wooden utility poles.
